Do you struggle with sensitive or rosacea-prone skin? Is it red, irritated and flares up if someone just looks at it sideways? To tackle your skin’s over-reactive nature, it’s important to understand what’s causing it.

Maybe you’re born with it …

True sensitive skin (aka reactive or hyper-reactive skin) is probably inherited from a parent. Typically, this skin is fine, delicate and dry. It feels tight and becomes irritated easily, becoming blotchy, flaky with a burning or prickling sensation. It can react to changes in temperature, gets sunburned easily. And contact with cleaning detergents, some metals and cosmetics can set it off.

… Or maybe it creeps up on you

Have you noticed hot, uncontrollable blushes flaring up when you eat spicy foods or drinking red wine? This could be a sign of rosacea, a chronic, inflammatory skin condition causing redness, flushing, visible broken capillaries and sensitivity.

Both these conditions need to be managed (hello, dermatologist!) or they can become worse, changing skin texture and aging it prematurely. Plus you need the right skincare as your ally.

Sensitive skin precaution!

If you have sensitive or reactive skin, any ingredient – even water – can cause a flare-up.

Our products are designed to be used by sensitive skin, but it is best to do a patch test before you use any new product: Apply a small amount to the skin beneath your jaw or on your inner elbow, wait 24 hours and see if you have stinging or redness.

If irritation, redness, burning or itching occurs, stop using it immediately.

Hot tip:

Irritation triggers to avoid:

  • Check skincare labels and avoid ingredients such as alcohol, lanolin, fragrance and artificial color.
  • Steer clear of things that cause inflammation, like chlorine in a swimming pool, or extreme heat (sitting next to a fire, having a sauna).
